HPC Systems Administrator | Raytheon | Suitland, MD

Raytheon serves as Integrator and prime contractor for the NOAA R&D High Performance Computing System (HPCS) program at the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) in Camp Springs, MD. We are responsible for operating the supercomputers at this and other sites and to facilitate their use by NOAA researchers. Our responsibilities include hardware, software, data storage, archiving, and applications support.

The HPC Systems Administrator will perform systems analysis, including hardware/software compatibility, to ensure researchers can obtain maximum productivity. Specific duties include:
  • Coordinate and/or modify user requirements, accounts and access in terms of existing computer capacity/capability, manage infrastructure systems and NCEP network connections.
  • Develop general and detailed documentation describing system specifications and operating instructions.
  • Direct interface with the researchers to determine the root causes of identified problems, to logically interpret systems documentation and system software, configure researcher's local software emulators, and manage infrastructure services including LDAP, DNS, Bastion host, web servers, IDS.
  • Collect and analyze systems use data, recommend changes and manage software licenses.

Required Skills:
Bachelor's degree in a computer science related field with at least 4 to 6 years of systems administration experience. Experience can be substituted for education. Additional requirement include:
  • Ability to work very effectively with the research community to maximize their productivity is mandatory.
  • Ability to work with as a team yet work individually is important.
  • Must be a self starter, communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Basic PC skills such as report generating using Microsoft Word and statistical analysis using Excel are expected.

Qualified applicants may be subject to a background investigation and must meet minimum qualifications for classified information. U.S. Citizenship is required.

Desired Skills:
Knowledge and experience with any of the following is beneficial and desired: AIX, LoadLeveler, Sun Grid Engine, HPSS, C, C++, FORTRAN, make command and make files, Perl, parallel programming methodologies.
